The Problem
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity needed a new website, as their previous site, hosted under the Roald Dahl Story Company, was no longer viable. The slow loading times and poor navigation were hindering key fundraising activities, leading to a significant drop in site visitors. Additionally, managing and updating the site was straining a small team with multiple responsibilities. The charity required a more efficient platform that would allow them to quickly update and publish content, ensuring smooth operation and supporting their vital work.
The Solution
To address these concerns it was my job to create a brand new website for Roald Dah’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which included:
UX design
UI Designs to reflect the look and feel of the charity
Implement a simple and straightforward navigation bar to make it easy to find important information about the charity, its mission, its work, its team, and its incredible Roald Dahl Nurses
Make the donation process quicker and smoother
Primary Goal
The primary goal was to increase donations, but there was no clear call-to-action (CTA) to guide users toward quick contributions.
With the new website I wanted to make sure there was a strong emphasis on donations, incorporating a pop-up fast form that significantly reduced the time needed to donate. Additionally, I developed a new content section featuring patient and nurse stories to highlight the charity’s importance and impact. This project also presented a valuable opportunity to develop the charity’s independent brand, distinct from the ‘Story Company’.
Stats
Since the launch of their new site the charity has experienced:
More than double the unique page views compared to the old site
Less than half the exit rate they were seeing on their old site
An average 57% increase in online donations from previous years
Increase in caused-focused audience activity
Increased traffic to pages containing valuable information about the charity.
This project was completed in collaboration with Holograph
Ongoing Relationship
Following the successful launch of the website and the establishment of a strong relationship with the team, I was commissioned on a freelance basis to assist with various print communications, including their Annual Review and the Sheffield Hallam University highlights.
Sheffield Hallam University conducted an independent evaluation of Roald Dahl’s Children’s Charity, underscoring the significance of their Specialist nurses. This evaluation was invaluable in demonstrating the charity’s positive impact on children and families in need. The report was distributed at the charity’s 30th-anniversary celebrations, where I was personally thanked by Liccy Dahl for my contributions—a career highlight.
