The Task

Lucozade Sport sought to develop an app aimed at encouraging physical activity, promoting brand loyalty, driving participation, gaining consumer insights, and increasing brand awareness. The app needed to be responsive, with a smooth design to enhance the user experience. Lucozade Sport wanted to motivate customers to stay active by offering incentives such as automatic entry into prize draws based on the number of steps taken. Therefore, a sophisticated and personalized experience was necessary to complement the user journey.

  • Total app downloads 94,417

  • Total number of steps recorded, over 66 billion!

My Primary Role

To ensure the design team effectively implemented the UX and UI designs, working closely with Lucozade Sport’s in-house designers. Using CSS and Ionic, I also provided advice on improving the app’s functionality and user experience. For instance, we removed certain animations that, while visually appealing, had the potential to slow down the app and deter users. We retained other engaging animations to simulate progression and motivate users to keep moving.

The app integrated with major fitness apps and devices to track activities like walking, running, swimming, and cycling, converting step data into entries for prize draws and earning movement badges. We also created and sent targeted emails using our in-house eCampaign manager to reward users for hitting targets.

The Stats

The app recorded over 94,417 downloads and more than 66 billion steps, with live dashboards providing Lucozade Sport with real-time data on user activities, demographics, download metrics, and device usage. After a successful campaign, Lucozade Sport decided to end the app on a high note to focus on new projects. We celebrated our achievements by creating a goodbye page on the Lucozade Sport website, highlighting the app’s success and user accomplishments.
